The Ryder Cup first day foursomes has seen the USA team go from Whistling Straits to Whistling Dixie in terms of victories and points on the board. The European team blew the red, white and blue away in Rome. Of course, it is only the first day and things may change, but it is an ideal start for team Europe. Jon Rahm was imperious with his dominate play. Viktor Hovland was equally impressive.
USA Ryder Cup Hopes Get Off To Rough Start In Rome
Team Europe has never before won all four matches in the first day session of the Ryder Cup. The foursome pairings of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood; Rahm and Tyrell Hatton; Shane Lowry and Sep Straka; Hovland and Ludvig Aberg looked a class above Zak Johnson’s pairings. The on course fans loved it and celebrated some great golf in fine style. There was a spring in the step of the European Ryder Cup golfers on the day one morning session. It was a new day for golf and for the hopes of Team Europe in 2023. Rory was pumped and showed great leadership toward younger members of the European team.
No Whistling Straits At Marco Simone For Team USA
The USA players missed crucial putts and did not cope with the pressure. In fact the very nice British commentators were starting to make excuses for the Americans. The Ryder Cup is built up so much and the expectations of golf fans are ginormous. There was some awesome golf played by these players and more is to come.
The Marco Simone golf course was challenging and the crowds were huge on this first day of Ryder Cup play. This is definitely golf’s premier event.
Ryder Cup Day One Results
“The U.S. outranked Europe 12.9 to 29.2 in terms of the Official World Golf Ranking, but by the time the first tees were pegged inside the first tee’s Colosseum-like amphitheater, the home side was a slight favorite. It didn’t take long for that gap to widen considerably. A record 4-0 foursomes session for the Europeans. A gusty, crowd-pumping comeback in four-balls to deny the Americans a full point over the course of a single day for the first time. While Europe’s Big Three of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland combined for five points, the top three ranked Americans Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay could only muster a collective half-point.”
Europe 6.5
USA 1.5
